Let’s Start Crocheting the Amigurumi Flying Whale Pattern!

Whale’s Body

Begin to crochet the whale, tightly stuffing it with fiberfill as you go.

  1. Rnd 1: 6 sc into a magic ring (6 st)
  2. Rnd 2: Inc in all 6 st (12 st)
  3. Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) repeat 6 times (18 st)
  4. Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) repeat 6 times (24 st)
  5. Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) repeat 6 times (30 st)
  6. Rnd 6: (4 sc, inc) repeat 6 times (36 st)
  7. Rnd 7: (5 sc, inc) repeat 6 times (42 st)
  8. Rnd 8: (6 sc, inc) repeat 6 times (48 st)
  9. Rnd 9: (7 sc, inc) repeat 6 times (54 st)
  10. Rnd 10: (8 sc, inc) repeat 6 times (60 st)
  11. Rnd 11-22: Sc in all 60 st
  12. Rnd 23: (8 sc, dec) repeat 6 times (54 st)
  13. Rnd 24: (7 sc, dec) repeat 6 times (48 st)
  14. Rnd 25: Dec, 1 sc, dec, 1 sc, dec, 32 sc, dec, 1 sc, dec, 1 sc, dec (42 st)
  15. Rnd 26: Sc in all 42 st
  16. Rnd 27: Dec, 1 sc, dec, 1 sc, dec, 26 sc, dec, 1 sc, dec, 1 sc, dec (36 st)
  17. Rnd 28: Sc in all 36 st
  18. Rnd 29: Dec, dec, dec, 24 sc, dec, dec, dec (30 st)
  19. Rnd 30: Sc in all 30 st
  20. Rnd 31: Dec, dec, 22 sc, dec, dec (26 st)
  21. Rnd 32: Sc in all 26 st
  22. Rnd 33: Dec, 22 sc, dec (24 st)
  23. Rnd 34: Dec, 20 sc, dec (22 st)
  24. Rnd 35: Dec, 8 sc, dec, dec, 6 sc, dec (18 st)
  25. Rnd 36: Dec, dec, 10 sc, dec, dec (14 st)
  26. Rnd 37: 6 sc, dec, 1 sc, dec, 3 sc (12 st)
  27. Rnd 38: 5 sc, dec, 1 sc, dec, 2 sc (10 st)
  28. Rnd 39: 1 sc, inc, 4 sc, dec, 2 sc (10 st)
  29. Rnd 40: Sc in all 10 st

At this stage, it’s very important to tightly fill the body of the whale. We won’t need any more fiberfill for the tail.

  1. Rnd 41: Inc in all 10 st (20 st)
  2. Rnd 42: Sc in all 20 st

You now have 20 sc. Next, we’ll create the tail by dividing the stitches in half, making one fin with rows 43-45, and then repeating for the second fin.

  1. Rnd 43-44: Sc in all 10 st
  2. Rnd 45: Dec repeat 5 times (5 st)

Close the hole and hide the thread.

Fins (Make 2)

Do not fill these.

  1. Rnd 1: 6 sc into a magic ring (6 st)
  2. Rnd 2: (1 sc, inc) repeat 3 times (9 st)
  3. Rnd 3: (2 sc, inc) repeat 3 times (12 st)
  4. Rnd 4: (3 sc, inc) repeat 3 times (15 st)
  5. Rnd 5: Sc in all 15 st
  6. Rnd 6: (3 sc, dec) repeat 3 times (12 st)
  7. Rnd 7: Sc in all 12 st
  8. Rnd 8: (1 sc, dec) repeat 4 times (8 st)
  9. Rnd 9: Sc in all 8 st
  10. Rnd 10: Dec repeat 4 times (4 st)

Close the hole, cut the thread, leaving a long tail for sewing. Attach the fins using a cord before sewing them onto the whale.

Attach the eyes between rows 10 and 11, and embroider the mouth. Your whale is ready!
